Adult Co-Ed Washer Toss Tourney

Hampton resident Heather Marshall is chief organizer of a washer toss tournament on Saturday, June 2nd, at the Bridgetown Arena. The proceeds of this adult-only co-ed tournament go to support this year’s Ciderfest activities. A limited number of teams will be entered so please do not delay in registering your team. Don’t forget that Tuesday nights at the Hall features both cribbage and 45′s. Games start at 7:30pm and continue each Tuesday. Good fun, good food, good company – very low investment!

A Celtic Evening

A Hampton resident (and blog editor) has been busy for several months, which included several trips to Montreal. It all culminated this past week with a Celtic Concert held at the University of Quebec’s (in Montreal itself) Marie-Gérin-Lajoie theater. Produced by Montreal company ScottishCentral.com and directed by this writer, we put on a 2 hour bilingual show called A Celtic Evening (Une soirée celtique). It was conceived to coincide with and reflect the 150th Anniversary of The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada.

A Celtic Evening reflected some of the Celtic nations in Montreal right now and included Irish, Scottish, and Breton Celts.

May Brunch Lunch

Hot on the heels of a successful first Burnch Lunch, the next one is Tuesday, May 1st at 11:30am. It’s that time of the year again to start planting your garden and who better to answer all of your garden questions than garden expert and guest speaker, Nina Newington. Nina has made her living designing and planting gardens for the past seventeen years. Originally from England, she immigrated to Canada in 2006. She now lives in Mount Hanley on the North Mountain.

Bring some treats with you and a spare loonie that will help with the cost of tea and coffee. See you there!

Hampton Cemetery Spring Clean Up

Now that the snow is finally gone (we hope), the Hampton Cemetery association is asking for your assistance in tidying up the cemetery. All interested hands can report to the cemetery at 10am on Saturday, May 5th, 2012. It should not take more than a couple of hours.

Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Please note also that the Hampton Cemetery AGM is at 7pm, May 14th, at the Hampton Hall.

County Community Winter Activity Challenge

The Annapolis County Community Winter Challenge wrapped up on March 31st. Recently, the communities met in Lawrencetown where the following awards were given out.

Betty Chazalon won a pair of $90-100 dollar snowshoes. Joanna Young won a tee shirt and Abby Rushton received a tee Shirt and and an A&W coupon.

Congratulations TO EVERYONE. The community of Hampton also we moved up to 6th place from 9th on an hours per person basis. We had 4.104.35 minutes from 1st Jan – 31st March 2012 which works out to 12hrs 44 minutes per person a week.

And finally, Hampton received a certificate (see below) for being a part of this community challenge the longest.

News from the Hampton Hall and beyond

The busy season is upon us and there are a couple of great events to mark in your calendars. First of all, this blog has a new calendar which is easier to read. We’ll try to keep it as up-to-date as possible. Please note that Hall is available for rentals at a ridiculously low rate. We have a newly-sanded floor, heat, insurance, a kitchen (with dishes and cutlery), tables and chairs, a washroom, a large off-road parking area.

Here are some notables:

15th April – Church starts up again in Hampton
16th April – Hampton Social and Recreational Society Annual General Meeting. Monday at 7pm. Come and renew your membership, and hear what’s in store for this year.
17th April marks the start of a combined cribbage and 45′s night. Games start at 7:30pm and continue each Tuesday.
01 May – Coming off the huge success of the first Brunch lunch, the next one features Guest Speaker – Nina Newington, an expert gardener. 11:30am.

Hampton Wharf Repairs

Hampton resident (and excellent photographer) Gale Connell has chronicled many changes to the Hampton lighthouse and wharf area over the years. Here are some recent photos Gale has captured of repairs to the Hampton wharf. Men are busy again working on the main wharf in Hampton, April 2012. They took the armour stone away from the top side and made a road out to the end to work from. More pictures to follow as work progresses.

Easter basket winner

The winner of the Easter basket draw at the Hampton Post Office was Audrey Connell. The basket was supplied by local gift basket business Scotia Gift Baskets. Anyone who buys a book of stamps at the Hampton Post Office gets entered into the basket draws.
