Happy 65th Anniversary

On Sunday, May 1,  Janetta and Willie Dexter will be celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary.  This will take place in Hampton Hall  from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.

Janetta and Willie are valuable members of the Hampton Community and, in particular, Janetta has played a big part in the historical aspect of the Hampton Lighthouse and Historical Society by giving us all her genealogical records.  It would be great if all community members could find some time to attend.

Plates of sweets and cards of congratulations are welcome. Patsy Sabean is organizing this but will be away till next Saturday.

Hope to see you all there sometime between 2 and 4.

Ye ole tool shed

Ye ole tool shed

A proposal from Judith Perry: “I am buying a lawn mower this week that I shall use once a week at the very most. I have a cultivator, brush hog and pry bar etc., which I use even less.  While I realize that having tools is a guy thing, it makes no sense for every household in Hampton to have every tool. So what I am proposing is a neighbourhood tool bank in a central location where one can sign out the tool one needs and return it after use. Surely this is a step in the green direction.  Comments /replies welcome.”

Hampton Lighthouse Centennial

Hampton Lighthouse Centennial

We in Hampton are extremely fortunate to have our very own lighthouse. Better still, we have a dedicated committee which keeps the light burning. The committee, over the years, has managed to maintain the lighthouse in good working order, making repairs where necessary. In recent years, the committee has also installed semi-permanent exhibits within the lighthouse, including audio-visual displays. These can be viewed during the weekends and holidays from late June until early September.

This year, 2011, marks the Centennial year of the lighthouse; 100 years of service to the community. And the light is still burning! There will be events marking this monumental anniversary, including the official celebration on July 1st, as well as a lobster supper on the wharf and beach on July 8th. You can get more details, as they are published, both at this blog and through the Hampton Lighthouse and Historical Society web site at www.hamptonlighthouse.com.

We would be interested in reading your feelings or memories about the lighthouse. You are invited to reply below and get your comments into the official record for the Centennial year.
